Values and History

Troupe 1730 began when Cherry Creek High School opened in 1955 and since then thousands of students have been apart of hundreds of shows put on the Creek stage.

Message from the Troupe President

Hi y’all! My name is Jen Failinger, I use she-her pronouns, and I am so delighted to have the honor of being Troupe 1730’s Theatre President for the 2020-2021 school year!

The theatre program here at Cherry Creek High School revolves around amazingly talented artists and incredibly kind people. Our goal is to provide a safe space for people of all backgrounds to make art and flourish within a community. Our overall goal is to build a respectful, diverse, inclusive, and creative home.

Every year we put on a full season of mainstage shows (a fall play, spring musical, spring play, and a MAL show that showcases our unified program) as well as a rotating season of one acts directed by our seniors that star juniors and seniors. Although the mediums may change during these unpredictable times, we are still going to be working and bringing our works of art to you all! Each year we have a theme surrounding the choice in shows and this year they were all pieces based on literature. This year the fall play is “Fahrenheit 451,” the musical is “Into the Woods,” the spring play is “Silent Sky,” and the MAL show is “The Little Mermaid.” We have 14 lab shows throughout the season that will be announced at the start of the school year. For more information about their artistic concepts, please check out the “Productions” part of our website.

Outside of our productions, we have meetings every Thursday after school to keep our troupe updated on what’s going on with Creek theatre as well as in the Denver community. Due to our current school’s COVID plan, we will also be streaming all thespian meetings first semester in the event that one of our thespians can not attend an in person meeting. As a troupe, we like to venture out into the high school theatre community and see productions all over the metro area and we continue that tuning into online showcases and virtual high school theatre seminars. We also have our amazing improv troupe who work hard to help explore and learn the inner workings of improv.

Our Director and theatre teacher, Alex Burkart, will be going on his third year with the Creek community and we are so thankful to have a trusted leader to help us through these times.

This website is here to help you navigate all the crazy amazingness that is Cherry Creek theatre. Follow our troupe Instagram and Snapchat (@troupe1730) to keep up with us on a day-to-day basis.

This year myself, Mr. Burkart, and the rest of the Thespian Board hopes that theatre can remain a consistent, safe, and welcoming environment during a year where consistencies are harder to come by. I hope that we can all discover that the joys of theatre go beyond what our typical set up is and that we can all find the beauty in the art we create this year, however that art may present itself.

Stay safe, stay well

Best,
